"Go Fossum

"Go" Fossum

Fossum given "go" to perform Solar Alpha Rotary Joint task at 12:02 p.m. EDT

After installing insulation and electrical connections to an expended Nitrogen Tank Assembly on the left P3 truss, spacewalker Mike Fossum was given a "go" to travel to the port Solar Alpha Rotary Joint, or SARJ. He will remove a thermal cover and use Kapton tape to capture some dust-like debris he noticed during an inspection of the SARJ during the second spacewalk.

The port SARJ continues to perform well, but the composition of the debris is unknown, so Fossum will return it to Earth for analysis. Meanwhile, Ron Garan has completed the "windshield wiper maneuver," riding the space station robotic arm from the right hand S1 truss to the left P3 truss and back, to exchange the Nitrogen Tank Assemblies.

Garan currently is installing the new Nitrogen Tank Assembly in place of the old one.
